Designing Your Dream Bedroom

Your bedroom is one of the most loved spaces in your home and should encompass your vision for ultimate relaxation. It is difficult to know where to start with so much choice on bed styles, furniture, curtains, soft furnishings and flooring! Creating a Mood Board with colour schemes you love, beds you like and matching furniture, types of flooring as well as accessories and soft furnishings is a great way to bring your ideas together. Picture your dream room and use inspiration from a magazine, Pinterest or a style you have seen in a hotel you have stayed in. Look at your floor plan, measure your space and keep the circulation of your room non-invasive so you can move around the furniture with ease. The worst thing would be to discover your dream bed only to find that on purchase it does not fit into your room when bedside lockers are added. Here are a few tips to transform your bedroom into a sanctuary of style and comfort:

A Neutral Palette:

Start with a colour scheme of soft neutrals to create a sense of calm in your space – colour can be added in other ways like your cushions, bedding, rugs and curtains. Add some texture on your walls with wallpaper behind your bed.

Your bedroom is about comfort so you may want to for some luxurious soft carpet for flooring. It’s so nice to have something soft underfoot on those cold mornings but if you prefer a laminate or wood finish, a soft rug can take care of this for you. If you are renovating you can always upcycle your flooring with floor paint!

Your bed:

Once you have an idea of your colour scheme and flooring the next important decision is your bed. It’s the most important element in any bedroom and investing in a good quality bed and mattress. It is paramount for a good night’s sleep. Choose from Divan and Headboard, Wood Frame Style, Roll Top and make sure your mattress pocket spring count is high for comfort!

Storage is important so make sure you choose wisely. You want ample space for all your belongings but you need to be able to move around your furniture with ease. Match your furniture to continue the style through your space to give your room balance. Add a vanity with mirror and stool to complete the look provided you have the space to play with.

Another important part of your room is controlling the natural light by dressing your windows correctly. Choose curtains or blinds but make sure to add some blackout to block that early morning light. Bring your bedside tables to life with some stunning lamps.

Add Texture:

Use texture and accessories to finish off your bedroom. Whether it’s some faux flowers in a pretty vase, colourful cushions and soft throws these little extras will add comfort and your style to the room. Buy yourself some indulgent bed linen and covers to match the décor. The great thing about accessories and bedding is you can change with the seasons – different colour cushions, throws and even curtains.
